Email & Calendaring
Students
Students are given a CSUN email address when they apply to attend the university. Students receive a letter from the Admissions and Records department with their CSUN email address and password. You can use this information to access your student Gmail account and the myNorthridge Portal.
Your CSUN student Gmail account serves as your official email account with the university, which means the university will use it for official university communications. You are responsible for monitoring your "@my.csun.edu" Gmail account and the information the university sends to it.
Accessing Gmail
Visit the Gmail login page and sign in with your "@my.csun.edu" email address and password.
- Need help locating your Gmail address?
Log in to the myNorthridge Portal and visit the Student Center (SOLAR). Your student Gmail address is located under Personal Information. - Need help locating your initial CSUN password?
If you don't know your initial password, contact the IT Help Center by phone (818) 677-1400, or in-person (Oviatt Library, Room 33). For security reasons, your CSUN password cannot be sent via email. - Need help changing your password?
If you have forgotten your password, you can change it by using the Forgot My Password tool.

Faculty & Staff
Faculty and staff are given a CSUN email address when they join the university. Your email and password are assigned when you sign in with Human Resources.
Accessing Email
Microsoft Exchange is the email system used by faculty and staff. This email system is equipped with the capabilities that allow you to access CSUN's global address book, share your calendars with your CSUN colleagues and configure your smartphone device. To make full use of the enhanced features available in Exchange, we recommend the following:
- Webmail Users - Use Internet Explorer 7 or higher. Learn more.
- Outlook/Entourage Users - View a complete list of features/benefits of using these clients to access Exchange. View configuration instructions for Outlook 2007 (PC) or Entourage 2008 "Web Services" Edition. If you are using Entourage 2008, strongly recommend that you upgrade to the "Web Services" Edition as there are some known unresolved bugs with the earlier versions.
- Other Email Client Users - If you use other email clients such as Thunderbird, Mac Mail, or Netscape, you will not have access to CSUN's global address book, shared calendars, voicemail synchronization, and other functionality that is available in Exchange. Making full use of this functionality requires the use of Outlook 2007 (PC) or Entourage 2008 "Web Services" Edition (Mac). Configuration instructions for other email clients are available on the Using an Email Client to Access Exchange page.
- Smartphone Device Users - If your smartphone device supports ActiveSync, you can configure your device to access your Exchange account. View a complete list of Smartphones tested by IT and instructions for Configuring Your Smartphone Device.
