Dr. Thomas Potter joined the faculty in 1968 coming from Southwest Regional Laboratory for Educational Research and Development in Los Angeles, where he was a Member of the Professional Staff. He holds a B. A. in Education from UCSB, an MA in Educational Psychology, with a minor in Educational Administration from UCLA and an Ed. D. in Curriculum and Instruction, emphasis in Reading and Language Development also granted by UCLA. He holds a California Life Elementary Teaching Credential and a California Elementary School Administration Credential. After six years in elementary school teaching (grades 3-6) in the Santa Barbara Unified School District, he taught bilingual (German / English) reading and language arts at the John F. Kennedy Schule (Klasse 3-8) in Berlin-Zehlendorf, Germany for three years. He was also the curriculum coordinator for the elementary (Vorschule - Klasse 6) division of the Kennedy Schule. He taught in the Summer Academic Program for Elementary School Students (SAPESS) at CSUN for twelve years.
