President's Message

President Koester and students.

I am delighted to welcome you to California State University, Northridge. In 2008-09, we celebrate our institution’s 50th anniversary. You join a nationally recognized university community that prides itself on the life-changing opportunities it provides and the crucial contributions it makes to students and the surrounding community, thanks to its exemplary academic and student service programs and its regional focus and commitment.

You are becoming a member of the Cal State Northridge family during one of our most exciting and productive building phases. In spring 2008, we held the groundbreaking for our new 1,700-seat Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge. Additionally, a new science building, a new student housing complex, a new student recreation center and a new parking structure are in construction or being planned. The campus’ dynamic growth will only serve to augment the work of our exceptional faculty and staff, and enrich your experiences at our regionally focused, nationally recognized institution of higher learning dedicated to your achievement and the needs of the community.

I encourage you to become familiar with the contents of this catalog early in your academic career; doing so will help you understand how the university functions and reveal to you the many extraordinary opportunities available to you as you begin to pursue your academic, professional and personal goals at Cal State Northridge.

Sincerely,
Jolene Koester
President
