HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION GRANTS FILM PROGRAM $50,000

Eva Longoria Parker joined returning HFPA President Philip Berk to announce grants. The Film Production Option of the Department of Cinema and Television Arts received a $50,000 grant from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, known worldwide for their Golden Globe Awards. The check was presented to Professor Nate Thomas, Head of the Film Production Option, at the HFPA's star studded Annual Installation and Grants Luncheon on July 28th in Beverly Hills. Super stars Nicole Kidman, Annette Bening and Eva Longoria Parker were among the numerous celebrity presenters. The production grant / fellowships are for senior film project students for the 2010-2011 school year. The director of each senior film project has the distinction of being a Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellow. For the past 15 years HFPA grants and scholarships to the film production curriculum and students, a largely working class constituency most in need of help, have literally made the difference between mere artistic aspiration and the actual fulfillment of dreams. Recent Cal State Northridge HFPA Fellows and supported films have won the Student Emmy, been region finalists in the Student Academy Awards, and have won a prestigious Heritage Award from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). The senior film project students also have the pleasure of editing in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Senior Film Edit Suite and preparing their sound design in the state-of-the-art Hollywood Foreign Press Association Film Sound Mix Studio. The HFPA grants have an even deeper significance during these trying economic times. (Photo courtesy of HFPA. Eva Longoria Parker joined returning HFPA President Philip Berk to announce grants.)

FBI and Local Law Enforcement in Partnership with CSUN Film Program Produce Gripping PSA on Cyber Predators and Children

The scene opens on a family at dinner. Each member is lost in his or her own world – listening to music, reading a magazine or staring off into space. In a corner of the room sits a laptop open to the image of a man typing away on his own computer. Glancing up at the camera, the man says, “If you don’t talk to your children, I will.”

The 30-second public service announcement, created by a team of Cal State Northridge faculty, students and alumni, is a stark reminder of the importance of parents taking advantage of every opportunity to talk to their children.
